We love to sing
Sometimes we even sing and dance at the same time
And we’re learning to love to dance
Lunch couldn’t come early enough –at 11am!
Sampler classes lets us explore some new instruments
Keep others
And really learn to play them
Art lets us get as messy as we can
And creative too!
We have special visitors
And we make visits to the Percussion room
Games day lets us all let off some steam
And ends in a popsicle frenzy!
If we’re in the Full day program, we’re in Music Theater
And we get snack!
And we’re back in Music Theater
And we goof off in Games
And chill out in Yoga, in preparation for
The Final Show! Where, at last, we get some real stage time!
If we’re very, very lucky, we get to be in ExPM and play cards, eat more snack, tease the apprentices some more and sometimes, watch Wallace and Gromit!

A Day at Camp in 1st and 2nd

You can watch activities from our day in the slideshow above.  The program is the same at all four campuses.

Also read about: PreK and K - 3rd through 6th

These groups start at around aged 5 and go up to around 7. They are for campers going in to 1st and 2nd grade next academic year. There will be around 12 campers in each group and two dedicated Teen Apprentices will accompany the groups everywhere they go throughout camp.  These groups travel from class to class.

Half Day Program

Learning about the piano from the inside out!

Our day starts at Morning Sing with the whole camp. When Sing is over,1st and 2nd graders go to their classes, accompanied at all times by their two assigned Teen Apprentices. These apprentices stay with their groups for the entire camp session. For many campers, the highlight of the morning is the Instrument Sampler class. Campers are placed in groups of three or four and visit one of the instrumental teachers to have a lesson on an instrument. They have two days of lessons on the same instrument and then move on to a new one.  The instrumental teachers are mostly Levine faculty and are adept at teaching younger children.  Through these classes, campers gain real experience on what the instrument sounds and feels like to play. This is an invaluable experience and is enormously helpful to them, and their families, when choosing an instrument to study.

Campers also have Music + class where Orff instruments (xylophones etc.) are used to help learn melodies, harmony and rhythm.  Campers do not need to read music as all of our songs are taught by ear.  A teacher will sing or play a line and the campers will sing or play it back.  Other classes include percussion, dance, art, games and yoga.  All campers participate in our final show singing songs, playing the Orff instruments and sometimes dancing, space permitting!

Full Day Program

Our afternoon program focuses on Musical Theater for all campers in 1st grade and above. With an emphasis on music more than theater, campers learn songs and routines with light choreography and props,  based on our theme. This is a wonderful time for them to cut loose with singing, dancing and performing and the culminating show is always a stunning achievement. We promote a fun and collaborative learning experience and focus our efforts on ensuring that all campers experience the fun of putting on a show.  In the afternoon we also have Games, Stretching and/or Yoga, and instrument building where the campers create some extraordinary instruments out of recycled materials.

Our sample schedule depicts a typical day. Some camps have two classes per grade (such as the one shown in this schedule), other camps have just one class per grade.  If you need to come and collect your child from camp, the staff and apprentices will use this schedule to determine where you child is at any given time of day.
